- Approvals for first-of-a-kind drugs climbed last year, pushing the annual tally of new U.S. drugs to its highest level in 19 years. - In not-so-shocking news, table sugar may increase the risk of breast cancer, according to a new animal study from the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. The current study specifically looked at the role of sugar in mammary gland tumor development.
- Over at Baylor Hospital in Texas, recent FDA approval of initial testing on a new, individually customized cancer treatment could bring new hope to the lives of millions struggling to fight the disease in the form of a simple shot.
- Misconceptions of sexual activity may be causing many pediatricians and family doctors to not recommend the HPV vaccine to preteens and their parents, contributing to low vaccination rates, a survey of nearly 600 doctors suggests.
